Supreme Court Favorability Hits New Low

Pew poll finds 52 percent see Supreme Court favorably, lowest approval rating in 25 years
The Associated Press  -  May 1, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new survey finds the Supreme Court’s popularity is at a 25-year low, though still much higher than that of Congress.  The Pew Research Center says 52 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the court, the lowest rating since the group started asking Americans their view of the high court in 1987.  Even at 52 percent, the court ranks well ahead of Congress. In a January poll, just 23 percent of Americans said they view Congress favorably.  The court’s highest rating was in July 1994, when 80 percent of Americans reported holding a favorable view of it.  The poll on the court was conducted April 4-15 among a random national sample of 1,514 adults and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

I'm surprised that ANYONE has a favorable rating of the U.S. Supreme Court these days.

i understand that they have an overwhelming caseload... but that in itself doesn't justify the substantial number of denials of petitions for certiorari...

this is what i see as one of the biggest problems with the nation's highest court... such a large number of denials, without even the slightest of explanations amounts to a gross denial of justice to many americans who see the SCOTUS as their final chance to redress a constitutional or civil rights violation...

my other big complaint is the arbitrary requirements set forth in the rules as far as the page size and format requirements for those not petitioning in forma pauperis... this ridiculous rule has no other purpose than to add another cost to the already financially burdensome process...

have you ever tried to find 6 1/8 by 9 1/4 inches size, 60 lb weight paper at your local Staples... there are only a few sources nationwide where this is available to the public... and it is expensive...

after you go through all the trouble to get everything right... you do it twice... then all you get back is a terse denied reply, written on 81/2 by 11...

Sadly, the lack of respect isn't polled about the New York Appellate courts and the NY Court of Appeals. If the media and the the NY Times,in particular, would report the corruption reported here and/or the cases which are presented before those courts and denied and the abuse of summary judgements which are not allowed to be precedents, the whole corrupt system would topple and be replaced. The evil and malfeasance of all the courts exists because the media refuses to cover it. Some have the fantasy that if enough Progressive judges were on the bench, they would by fiat change the system. That was tried with Stalin. Others have the fantasy that judges would follow the Constitution and rein in government growth and abuses. Lord Acton had it right, "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it." You need a bright light and continuous use of a broom to keep the vermin out. Black robes do not purify a lawyer.

Yeah because they are bought and paid for. look at one of them his wife takes in money as a lobbyist
then he decides on issues that she is getting money for, Others go to meetings of groups that are big money doners. Everyone knows they are bought and paid for.
Then to put the icing on the cake you have the Citizens United Case
that confirms the court is bought by big money. Either side of the aisle does not like the decision on the Citizens United Case.
Now they look like as they really are puppets to big money.
